Q. Hi, I recently got told by a close friend that as part of my Windows Vista license I qualify for a free upgrade to Windows 7. Is this correct and is it worth doing?

A. Your friend is partly correct, direct from the Microsoft website quotes “The upgrade fulfillment method may vary by PC manufacturer. When you buy a qualifying PC from a PC manufacturer that has chosen to participate in the Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program, you’ll generally need to fill in a form and follow a few steps to order your upgrade copy of Windows 7. Look for a form with redemption details in the packaging that came with your PC. If you bought a qualifying PC and can’t find out how to get the upgrade, please check on the PC manufacturer’s web site.

If however you do not qualify for a free upgrade there is a normal upgrade route, please feel free to call us for prices. We have tried and tested Windows 7 and have found it to be pretty reliable, although early reports about it running well on low spec machines seem untrue and we recommend at least 3GB Ram. Also we do not recommend this for business use as many software vendors are still ironing out bugs in the their software to make it compatible with the new operating system.
